[SOLVED] Kubuntu 18.04.1 bridged networking in virtual machine manager

    Hi,

I'm trying to find a way to set up bridged networking in virtual machine manager and all the instructions I've found on google broke my network.

How can I set this up so that I can still manage network connections with the systems setting module, or if not feasible, at least so it works?

    Thanks

Is there more info I can provide? What would be relevant? I backed out the network breaking changes, I guess I could tell you what I tried that didn't work?

I haven't done this in a while. Seems to me you have to download bridge-utils and then you will see a bridge option under networks. As I recall there was a bug in it several versions back and I had to configure manually, but I think it eventually worked using Network Manager. Tell me what you've tried and I'll try to remember what I did.

        Thanks.

The Software Center shows bridge-utils as being installed, however typing it in at the menu doesn't show anything and typing bridge-utils at the command line results in 'command not found'.

I don't see any options for bridging or anything like that in the network control applet.

Maybe I should just use virtualbox, bridging works out of the box with that.

Nope. Had no idea that particular interface (the gui method) existed.

            Thank you!

So the GUI for Virtual Machine Manager has options for setting up bridges and using them with VMs. However, it doesn't play nice with the network applet in Kubuntu desktop. After activating the bridge from VMM, the network manager applet shows no connections whatever. :-(

I realize I could skip using GUI tools and manage it all from the CLI, and that may be the only way to get all the features I might want, but maybe I could let the parties developing these two interfaces know what I'm experiencing and that might contribute in some small way to future improvements?

So I believe the VMM work is done by the Redhat guys, so I'm not sure if I should be talking to them or the Kubuntu devs...

How do you decide where to discuss such issues where they overlap between projects?
