    [SOLVED] Handbrake

I tried to install Handbrake via a PPA. But it has not appeared.

There are two versions of Handbrake in the muon package manager:

    Handbrake;
    Handbrake-gtk

I cannot see the difference between these two programmes.

    Is one recommended?

    Thanks

Ps. Should I leave the PPA in place? If removal is recommended, please state the method. The PPA came from the official Handbrake site - Stebbins.

Have you rebooted yet? Once back on the Desktop, just start typing Handbrake and it should appear for selection.

      To remove a PPA:
      sudo apt-add-repository --remove ppa:someone/somename

where someone/somename is the string used to add the repository in the first place.

          Al-right.

I first installed handbrake from the muon package manager and found that, although it worked, it would not save to mp4 - it should.

I visited the Handbrake website and was advised to install the latest version from their website via a PPA.

I then removed Handbrake from my pc and installed the PPA, howvver, even after re-booting, Handbrake did not appear.

The handbrake website advised installing Handbrake gtk. Not undertaken yet.

Currently, therefore, Handbrake is not installed, but the PPA is in place.

The cli version of handbreak is in the repository (Neon based on 16.04) and so is its GUI, which is GTK+ based. No need to use a PPA.

I can't remember if 14.04 has libdvdcss2 included or not but be aware, at least for me, I had to install that as well.

I don't think that library is installed

                            Code:
                            andrew@andrew-Dell-DM061:~$ whereis libdvdcss2
                            libdvdcss2:
                            andrew@andrew-Dell-DM061:~$
The interesting point is that when I installed Handbrake from the muon repository it worked perfectly well, except for the fact that it could not save to mp4, it could save to its default format, mkv (as I recall).

Evidently, according to Stebbins at Handbrake, a well formed programme will save to both formats via the dropdown menu.

                            Best wishes.
