Re: So... is Karmic Koala going to be usable?
I am not really techy or have an interest in programming or computers in general. I just want an operating system that I don't have to mess with much, something stable that works because I depend on it for business and I am working on the computer several hours a day. I switched from XP to Kubuntu with Feisty over 2 years ago and have never looked back, Kubuntu is still all I use.
I have been using Hardy since it's so stable and have been reluctant to upgrade since reading all the negativity about Jaunty and Karmic. But when Karmic was released I decided to try it. I decided to go ahead because almost all the negative comments I read about it here just sounds like whining.
I did a format and clean install and the install was smooth but no it wasn't out of the box ready to go the way I wanted it. I did have to do some tweaks and install some things to get it to work the way I wanted it. A lot of things I didn't know how to do but by searching these boards I figured it all out easily.
Now that it's done I am liking it even better than Hardy. It's just as fast if not faster, even on an older machine, I like the look, I now have more options, it does everything Hardy did and more and nothing has crashed at all. It may have taken a little time to get things the way I wanted them (hour or 2) but now that it's set up I have an OS much better than Windows. So they may not have it perfect but I think perfection is not a reasonable expectation.
So is Koala going to be usable? I am using it and happy with it so I say the answer is absolutely yes it's very usable.
