I have Ubuntu 7.10 installed on my laptop and after playing with my friends version of Kubutnu 8.04 I liked it better than regular Ubuntu. How would I go about switching from Ubutntu to Kubuntu? -Thanks.

    Kubuntu FAQ:
I already have Ubuntu installed, how can I get Kubuntu?

    1. Install kubuntu-desktop either with Synaptic or the command line apt-get install.

See InstallingKDE for a full explanation.

      Re: Switching to Kubuntu

I'm talking about removing Ubuntu completely and then installing Kubuntu from a BootCD. What steps would I go through?

        Hi!

Just download the latest DVD version of Kubuntu (8.04) from kubuntu.org, put the dvd into your drive, restart and follow the installer steps and when you'll format your hard drive you'll remove Ubuntu completely, that's all.

Of course, if you follow the procedure presented in the previous post, YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR PERSONAL STUFF. So either, backup all your personal stuff (not quite as easy as it sounds, but check some of the threads in the How-To section of this site) or:
          (0) Backup, anyway, just in case.
          (1) Install kubuntu-desktop (as suggested above).
          (2) Remove ubuntu-desktop.
          (3) Upgrade to Hardy
          or (if you have room)
(2a)Don't remove ubuntu-desktop and have the best of both worlds.
