Slot 1 Pentium 3 heatsink & fan

I'm building another Kubuntu system with a slot 1 Pentium 3. The CPU I have has just a heatsink - no fan or provision for one. The heatsink is a bit like a hedgehog - just a lot of spines. Does this CPU really need a fan or does it run extra cool and therefore doesn't need one? If it does need a fan, what sort should be fitted?

I'd be grateful for any advice, please!

What I'd do is to go to an electronic sales website like NewEgg and see if they sell a heatsink for that proccesor. If they do, buy it.

In most cases the Slot 1 PIII CPU needs a fan or you will have issues. Some OEM's used the case fan and a shroud to draw air over the CPU. HP/Compaq did on some systems. I would strongly recommend that you find a standard PII/PIII heatsink and fan. CoolerMaster and Zalman have ones that will work.
