Odd clipboard behavior in KDE neon

For some time now, the standard clipboard of KDE neon has been behaving strangely. My default setting is that selected text is immediately copied to the clipboard. That works as it should when I dubbleclick a word. However, when I select text by dragging the mouse left to right, instead of one entry, for each additional letter another entry appears in the clipboard. See screenshot.
I suspect that this is due to Wayland. This is because my other KDE distro—dual boot—with X11 has the same clipboard, and this behavior does not occur there. How can I fix that? Is it a known issue?

    Update:
I switched to X11 and that solved the issue. As I suspected the issue is a Wayland specific one.
Because of some other issues with Wayland I decided to quit Wayland and use X11 from now on.

No that should not be happening on Wayland. It does not do this for me on two different systems.

I DO see this when I'm running Lubuntu and X11. Its clipboard tool acts exactly like that for me, and it didn't use to do this in the past.

I vaguely recall mention of this somewhere, maybe. I'll see if I can drag something up.

Ok, it seems that it *may* be a Chrome/Chromium specific thing with Plasma 6 but may involve some gtk things, too.

      https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=498894
      and
      https://issues.chromium.org/issues/329330874
      .
I can reproduce this on Chrome, Chromium and Steam (which iirc uses Chromium/Electron), but not anything else I have, so far.
Keeping the selection and the clipboard the same is needed to trigger this. I don't normally use this on my main PC, as I keep my selections for middle-mouse pasting, but not saved in Klipper, but do keep a longer list of saved items for normal copy/paste actions.

It definitely is the same on my Lubuntu install using Qlipper with similar settings; only Chrome triggers it on this minimal setup I have, and it is most definitely x11. But as Qlipper is arguably used by a much smaller number of people, and less likely to have the selection/clipboard synced, there is no bug report of this I can see.

If this truly is a Chromium related bug, who knows if/when this is dealt with.

That makes sense to me bc I'm running Vivaldi browser that is chromium based. And the issue was only on Wayland. After switching to X11 clipboard works fine.

Should I write about it in Vivaldi forum? I think so.

I imagine this is not something they can do much with, as it is in the Chromium parts itself -- they modify the codebase, but not sure if they go down that deeply below the UI levels.
Then there is Brave, Edge, and every Electron based application I imagine.

          It probably would not hurt.

I would have to report the issue directly to the Chromium bugtracker. Maybe I'll do that near future.
At the moment I'm fine with X11 as I don't understand the advantages of Wayland anyway.
