    archive.ubuntu.com incredibly slow

For the last few days, sometimes apt update takes 10 minutes to finish. Lots of folks have had this problem ... 6 years ago. Is changing the mirror for Neon the same as changing it for ubuntu. Any recommended sites? How to know if they are generally up to date?

'archive' I believe is not only the main server, but also a load balancer that sends traffic to different mirrors.

One can switch to country specific mirrors, that have a smaller set of mirrors to send you to.

For me, using the AU mirrors is a bad idea, as it is MUCH slower most of the time.

So, you can edit your sources.list file and edit archive.ubuntu.com
    to fr.archive.ubuntu.com
    or similar.

(before anyone jumps in, neon hasn't as of yet moved to the new style of sources file.)

Note that this will not affect PPA sources, nor Neon's as these do not have the vast array of mirrors that Ubuntu's archives have.

Usually it is the PPAs or sometimes neon's archive that is slow, but it could be anywhere.
The Ubuntu archives seem normal to me here today in terms of speed.

Anyone else having a problem? Trying to build a docker image from ubuntu:latest and apt-get update barely completes and apt-get install is going <10k/s from both my home and my office and about half of the package downloads timeout.

It all depends on one's location/connection/bandwidth available between the servers and your computer.

No issues here in Aus, even running through a VPN server in the US, and keeping the main apt server. For me it is very often faster to use the US or main servers instead of the local AU one. So I just leave the stock setup alone.
