Hi. I am working on a highschool project with a friend about linux. Kubuntu is our favorite distro so we thought we would focus more on it. One thing we would like to do is edit the os to be customized more to our wants. I know 4 programming languages and have access to books from pretty much any programming books needed. We are mainly going for editing the visual part of it, but will want to do some functions editing as well. How do I get started? I extracted the iso and can't find much in there, especially images. Is there a tool that lets me make changes and compile it fast for testing again? I looked on the kubuntu site and it was a bit confusing as to what I need because they seemed like they were talking more about actual programs. Thanks for any help.

Re: Custom Distro
I guess that depends on what you want to do ....as I reread you original post I think you just want to customize your Vbox install.
and you didn't really say just how and what.
what I linked you to was a way to build a live system to put on a DVD/cd AFTER you customize it to your tastes.........sorry I guess I read it to fast
or just back up your system.

Re: Custom Distro
remastersys is a hack - nice but definitely a hack (and you don't learn a thing). If you fancy doing some real remastering there is plenty of info on this forum (time to blow my own trumpet from a long time back):
