    KDE4.1 grub splashscreen

    I found this today:
    http://www.kde-look.org/content/show...?content=75443

so I gave it a try:
    sudo apt-get remove grub
downloaded the new version of grub-gfxboot:
    http://kanotix.com/debian/pool/main/g/grub-gfxboot/

    installed with:
    Code:
    sudo dpkg -i grub-gfxboot_0.97-11_i386.deb
    and:
    sudo grub-install hd0
this will differ depending on your system!!

    now download and unpack:
    http://www.kde-look.org/content/show...?content=75443

choose the one (message) you want (i chose blue) and paste it into:
    /boot/grub

now add this to your menu.lst:
    gfxmenu /boot/grub/message.kde41blue
    save and reboot and enjoy

Interesting. And very nice job you've done here laying it out so well.
(Of course, when I read sudo apt-get remove grub, I did two things: Thought how brave you are. Then I passed out ).

Nice job sorting this out for folks, Fintan.

Hey - that is a nice one !

Hmm - > Idea #6222: gfx-grub as default boot loader tells that:
Since feisty there is an ubuntu grub gfx theme in the repository but no grub-gfx package.
      and yes, the repositories have:

      - gfxboot, bootlogo creator for gfxboot compliant boot loaders.
      - gfxboot-theme-ubuntu, Ubuntu theme for gfxboot-compliant boot loaders.
      - gfxboot-theme-suse, SuSE theme for gfxboot-compliant boot loaders.
      - gfxboot-theme-sles, SLES theme for gfxboot-compliant boot loaders.
      - gfxboot-theme-nld, NLD theme for gfxboot-compliant boot loaders.
      Before you edit, BACKUP !

        Thankyee guys

        Then I passed out
Yeah I had my apprehensions as well but it works

I just wonder when this is going to make its way into the default.

Now, how to get the background (whichever black, blue or a nice Kubuntu one) into the boot background

so we have a nice and consistent boot experience

Hmmmmmmmmm -- I spent all day yesterday configuring this Intrepid Ibex system -- got it set up pretty nicely, now. Do I dare risk this ?

            I think so ......

                Re: KDE4.1 grub splashscreen

Uh-oh -- @Fintan, did you happen to see anything like this during your process?

                Code:
                dib@ibex:~$ sudo grub-install hd0
The file /boot/grub/stage2 not read correctly.

EDIT: YES, it's OK -- I rebooted and saw the "GNU GRUB 0.97" title on my boot menu. I didn't put any graphics into it yet -- I wanted to make sure it was going to boot. Now I'll explore how to pretty up the menu.
