Re: HOWTO: Add the Medibuntu Repository and PGP Key

    Snowhog,
    Great tutorial!
Generally, what's the difference between adding Medibuntu (or any repository) through the command line versus doing it through the Adept menu?
A technical question: it's a "PGP" key, not a "GPG" key, right?
    Thanks,
    Matt

I've searched high and low, and I cannot find the answer, I must be the only person who doesn't know the answer, but how do I add this to Hardy?

Not sure, or even if, it is necessary. The site from which I got the information for this How To:
              https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu
doesn't have any specific information for use with Hardy.

Re: HOWTO: Add the Medibuntu Repository and PGP Key

Anaconda tells in the Medibuntu repository for hardy:
                http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=713009

Medibuntu repository for Hardy (8.04) does EXIST. but the "normal" wget command (with gutsy changed to hardy):
                sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/gutsy.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list
Does NOT work! , because there isn't anything behind:
                http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/hardy.list
(and I understood that there wont be hardy.list before the official release date!!)

instead you have to manually add these lines to the end of your /etc/apt/sources.list -file and then run the wget command, that gets the gpg keys and updates apt-get.

                ## Medibuntu - Ubuntu 8.04 "hardy"
                ## Please report any bug on https://bugs.launchpad.net/medibuntu/
                deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ hardy free non-free

                And the wget command:
                wget -q http://packages.medibuntu.org/medibuntu-key.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add - && sudo apt-get update

I think, that it is better to use /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list (or mysources.list) than "add these lines to the end of your /etc/apt/sources.list -file".

                man sources.list(5)
                SOURCES.LIST.D

The /etc/apt/sources.list.d directory provides a way to add sources.list entries in seperate files that end with .list. The format is the same as for the regular sources.list file.

Woo hoo it worked! I knew it would, just didn't expect me to get it right on the first try, then again this time I mostly followed the directions.

Re: HOWTO: Add the Medibuntu Repository and PGP Key

                        Sorry for my crazy question:

                        From Rog I just coppied:
                        deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ hardy free non-free
Then I opened adept manager, selected >Adept >Manage Repositories, I selected "Third-Party Software", I clicked on "ADD" and in the box that popped up, I pasted the link and clicked on "Close".

It all worked, so now, just for curiosity: which would be the correct way to tell a newby to add the repository?

Re: HOWTO: Add the Medibuntu Repository and PGP Key

What Rog wrote in March was true at that time, but it is not true today because Hardy Heron is now released and the Medibuntu repository is populated with packages.

So, today you should follow the instructions on this page to add the Medibuntu repo to your sources:

I need to add the Medibuntu Repository but it's not included in the adept manager and the above recommended instructions link is dead, so how exactly do I install it?
