    artsd crashes on KDE startup

Arts Daemon crashes when KDE 3.5 Beta 2 starts. ALSA is up and running as I get Sounds from the Pysol Sound Server and from Xine and other non KDE specific apps.

    Here is the Debug Dump

    Using host libthread_db library "/lib/tls/i686/cmov/libthread_db.so.1".

Anyone have any ideas how to fix issue?

Re: artsd crashes on KDE startup

It is a known problem. Solution....downgrade arts by this command "sudo dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/*arts*.91-*deb"

Then wait with upgrading those files until they are fixed. Hopefully this means when the next update for them will arrive.

Re: artsd crashes on KDE startup

        Hi,

I have the same problem. I tried

        dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/*arts*.91-*deb

        but it says

cannot access archive: No such file or directory

I guess that's why I did a "apt-get clean" to clear downloaded packages. I was out of disk space...

I cannot remove arts too, Kynaptic wants to remove a bunch of important other packages too! I also downloaded the source and compiled arts-1.4.91, which overwrote the files under /usr/bin. Still no luck...

        Any ideas? Thanks a lot!!

Re: artsd crashes on KDE startup

Like you when I did find the older arts packages and that I would lose a lot of other software if I installed it, that I needed and/or wanted, decided to wait and see if the Beta 3 or an RC 1 update would fix issue. Sound isn't all that important to me but my apps are and since I do business on this laptop I needed it more. Granted I am running Beta Software on a production desktop but that would be nothing new to me.
