Programs not starting during high disk I/O

I've noticed this a few times and it may not just be with kubuntu.

If there is a high amount of disk I/O, like from 'doodle' (whatever that is) or from uncompressing a large file, and I try to start a program, like firefox, the mouse cursor will bounce around a lot and then stop but the program will not start.

I suspect that I need to increase the time allowed to start a program in KDE (I know there is a setting somewhere). But isn't Linux supposed to be good at balancing out the needs of different processes?

Could this be a problem with the kernel configuration?

Not a high priority but somewhat annoying nevertheless.

    Thanks.

I have noticed this as well. It never happened with Hoary but now in Breezy, I'm noticing it more frequently. And not just with one app, several different apps. Machine is the same, only thing different is the update to Breezy.

    I await opinions and answers!

        Same situtation here.
On my system it does not depend on system-load, i just have to start an app a few times before it really comes up (yes, i've waited 2 minutes before i clicked the second time, the app had had time to come up)

        btw, i'm using breezy

I get the same problem even when there is little or no disk i/o.

I guess this problem has been forgotten about. I'm still seeing this happen, no fix yet.

This morning, I tried to start OpenOffice Calc and it took 5 minutes :-0 But this is probably a different topic...
