    Kdesktop_lock won't unlock (SOLVED)

After I started a new kdm-session (under the K-menu) and choosed the option 'lock current session & start new session', I was not able to unlock my desktop anymore using my user password.

I've restarted X, but I'm still not able to unlock it normally, I can unlock it when I kill the kdesktop_lock proccess under tty1.

    What can be the problem?

    Jeroen

Do you have kde 3.5 beta1 because it's a known bug for this beta ?

Sorry I forgot to mention that, I am using Breezy with KDE 3.4.3.

Some extra info from the log-files:

        -----

        (pam_unix) authentication failure; logname= uid=1000 euid=1000 tty=:0 ruser= rhost= user=jeroen

Authentication failure for jeroen (invoked by uid 1000)

        check pass; user unknown

        -----

I have no problems logging in KDE or terminals.

          Re: Kdesktop_lock won't unlock (SOLVED)

          I solved the problem.

I figured out that kdesktop_lock uses pam and kcheckpass. When I run the latter it gives an 'Authentication failure'.

I changed my password with 'passwd' to a temporary one and changed it back to the original one. I did run 'kcheckpass' again and it worked. I am also  able to unlock the screensaver again.

Great! This saved me a lot of time. One question, though: I'm using the same version of KDE desktop on Kubuntu and Mepis, yet I had no trouble with the lock screen utility on mepis. Is this a problem with KDE, or with the Kubuntu install?
