Installation failed

Kubuntu 5.04 worked perfecly on my system.
I've try to make a new install of Kubuntu 5.10 on it but some components installation fail at the end of the installation. I think it's KDE but not sure.

I have a black screen with a prompt : login, password. no interface.
My system is : mini-pc Ideq 200V : VIAKM400, Athlon XP 2800 Geforce 5700fx, sound blaster live 7.1, 768mb RAM tested.
The live CD 5.10 works perfectly.

Can you be more specfic about what components are failing ? when it drop you at login prompt, try to login then issue sudo /etc/init.d/kdm restart, enter your passowrd when prompted. if it fail to start, tell us what it say.

it says k display: kdm.

and when i try to start, it says kdm is already running.

at booting lib modprobe kernell 2.6.10.... fail. or something like that.

i didn't log the error in the live cd, but i tried to install it at least 3 times and got 3 different failures. And I've used the live cd RC for breezy and it worked flawlessly.

Somebody hosed this. youreally think it would help to post all the install/boot logs? how does one save this things on a live cd that wont boot?
