    9.04 jaunty crashes

Hi guys, I've installed the 9.04 (completely install not upgrade - before I had 8.10). With the jaunty some problems I've found:
1 - often when the wlan is connecting a black screen comes and the system is locked and I have to reboot
2- with firefox 3.0.11 or 3.5 when I save a file downloaded the system crashes and remains locked
3- It is a week that i have the notification for 8 upgrades but there are only 4 and they are locked.
With the 8.10 I didn't have these problem

    bye

Are you using network manager or wicd? Is your wlan encrypted (wep or wpa)?
Network Manager has problems and many users suggest wicd as a better option
    Code:

How did you install ff3.5 as it is not yet in the Ubuntu repositories? There are several posts on the forum on firefox 3.5

Yes, that's what others have been saying too. You may have noticed also that KPackageKit has problems and that others are using apt or synaptic instead.

      To follow up on kevinc:

      Open a terminal ad do:
      Code:
      sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
then you should get all you upgrades.

      Now do:
      Code:
      sudo apt-get install synaptic
      https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SynapticHowto

I haven't touched kpackagekit and won't until it is stable.

2- with firefox 3.0.11 or 3.5 when I save a file downloaded the system crashes and remains locked
FF3.5 is in the repos but it install next to FF3, yes there is some discussion on the thread mentioned above about this.

You can see my solution there near the bottom.

      I haven't looked back since.

I also set my prefs to:
      choose the destination for downloads.
or something similar as mine is in german.
1 - often when the wlan is connecting a black screen comes and the system is locked and I have to reboot
I had that on my laptop as well, I switched to wicd. Just go to synaptic or better read this:
      http://wicd.sourceforge.net/download.php

Also you might consider upgrading to kde4.3 soon.

      KDE 4.3 RC 2 Available

The second release candidate is out from KDE for the upcoming 4.3.

Users of the Karmic development release can upgrade to the latest packages.

Note that these packages still have a bug which causes X to die during the upgrade. The upgrade will continue and you can reboot when it is done.

Update: Users of our stable 9.04 release can now install it from the Kubuntu Backports PPA.

      deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/backports/ubuntu jaunty main

It is strongly recommended that you verify the integrity of these packages by installing the archive's GPG key. You may do this by saving the PUBLIC KEY BLOCK available from this page to a file and importing it from the authentication tab in KPackageKit's software sources window.

Then refresh and do a full upgrade.

I am running RC2 and waiting for RC3 and it is fast and stable.

      I hope this is helpful.
