    Xorg video garbage bug diagnosed

Looks like the cause of the 'video glitches when opening new window/menu' bug has been found:

There's a intrepid ppa repository available for fixed xorg packages (haven't tried them myself).

In a sense I was relieved to see I wasn't the only one experiencing the garbage. I tried disabling the patch myself (commenting out 107_fedora_dont_backfill_bg_none.patch in debian/patches/series), incremented the version string and built it into packages. It's awesome now, the blemish is gone. I bumped them to my own ppa so I can go back and upgrade all my machines easily.

Supposedly this is sort of a workaround though, as the patch itself is a performance tweak that we're now disabling. See http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=170462#c54.
    KDE, I heart thee.

I am using the ppa packages, and on my older P4-M laptop with ati mobility 7500 video using the native drivers, , I so far am finding the glitch to have disappeared, and I don't see any difference in system performance as far as I can see. I don't quite understand what the kernel patches are for exactly, but I am guessing it depends on what video chip and driver is being used so as usual ymmv
