Re: locked session won't unlock (NOT SOLVED)

      hi there.
      thanks for your reply.

      dpkg-query says...

ii kde 44ubuntu2 The K Desktop Environment
      ...
ii kdelibs 3.4.3-0ubuntu1 core libraries from the official KDE release
ii kdelibs-bin 3.4.3-0ubuntu1 core binaries for all KDE applications
ii kdelibs-data 3.4.3-0ubuntu1 core shared data for all KDE applications
ii kdelibs4-dev 3.4.3-0ubuntu1 development files for the KDE core libraries
ii kdelibs4c2 3.4.3-0ubuntu1 core libraries for all KDE applications

      doesn't seem to be 5.3b.
      am I wrong?
btw, I had the same problem also before installing the whole of kde...
I didn't want the whole kde.
I installed it in desperate hope of getting rid of all the problems I'm having with kubuntu.
this is only one of them (not even the most annoying).

do you confirm I have to force overwrite that lib package?

Is this while initially logging into KDM or just from locking the screen? Either way, have you fiddled with your /tmp directory in anyway? Changed it's ownership or permissions?

Re: locked session won't unlock (NOT SOLVED)

              sorry folks
i was busy and couldn't keep up with the forum...
              now...
              thanks JamesM for your inut.

              skoal...

i have recently installed some apt-got some updates
and something must have done the magic, 'cause
              this issue has disappeared.

anyway, it was from both locking the screen and
logging into kde. sometimes it was the former, sometimes
the latter... and, no, i hadn't fiddled with /tmp in any way.

it must have had some relations with the "network
config - can't go into administrator mode - whatever
password i enter is refused" bug.

after installing the updates that were mentioned for that
bug, this one went away (dunno about the other, 'cause
i have NOPASSWD set in my sudoers for my account, so
that i don't have to enter my password every bloody time).

if i got things all right, the problem was that some piece
of sw would rely on a file in /tmp, which is wiped at boot.

thanks for all your help folks.
oh...and despite all the issues (which i'm understanding and
fixing one at a time)...i'll stick with k/ubuntu.

Not sure what causes the 'locked session won't unlock' -bug, but changing your password seems to fix it.

Your old password starts working as well if you switch back to it (if you're not very good at memorizing new passwords like me). :P

I had the same and found a problem with the settings of the kcheckpass executable
for me it was fixed with a chmod u+s kcheckpass
