Gray panel blocking desktop background on login

Don't know how to add comments, so I couldn't just reply with another one.

I wasn't trying to go the nuclear option, but these problems suggest no other sane way. it will take me significantly longer, because there are modifications that have to be made to some of the OS files, just for the system to work correctly. Probably an hour or more, but still faster than trying to fix the issues. Plus, it's also a multiboot system, so there are extra steps.
