The funds raised via our Paid Subscriptions goes entirely to maintaining KFN online. There are no salaries, not even for our Host and Owner of KFN, Open Source. He, along with the other Administrators, do what we do without compensation.

Maybe consider some marketing.
Example: Craft a "nice" request for subscriptions.
Place it in a few prominent places, like at the top of the page "Today's Posts."
The request should be to the point, upbeat, specific (e.g., mention that they start at just $12 a year), not too pushy ("It's totally optional ... please consider ...")
Maybe some humor, "Isn't Kubuntu a great operating system? It sure is ... [now here's how you can be part of it / here's how you can help, etc.]
Writing it takes some effort and time -- you might spend a couple-three days getting it worded just right.

NOW: I am definitely NOT shy about promoting stuff to targeted markets! ha-ha
