Sure looks interesting:

I'm thinking of it as a replacement for the spousal unit's 2014 ASUS laptop (with Kubuntu on it).
They aren't giving it away. It doesn't compete with the Chrome books. It's in its own class.
In 2014, that ASUS laptop was, I think, $800, also not cheap. I don't know what it costs today.

The Googlebooks are not yet on the shelves.
It looks like there would be no problem transferring all the LibreOffice documents over. And even using LibreOffice, installed through a Linux container from a virtual terminal.

The OS is basically Android in desktop mode (think Samsung DEX, and the native implementation some phones can have). Something that they probably should have been using ages ago.
It seems a bit wierd to run a Linux container/vm and an Android container/vm on top of Chrome OS; now they can have it down to two things



I haven't looked at the new OS yet, tbh, even if I am a Chromebook friendly at times. Chromebooks started out as very expensive Google things at first, right?

I know ChromeOS just moved from using a container for Linux to using a virtual machine, I am guessing that the new OS will do something similar. It performs better on my i5-1135G7 11th Gen HP (aka a flimsy piece of crap) Chromebook that I very recently returned to ChromeOS from Linux. The Linux is not as well integrated as the container was at this stage but still more or less works the same. Just a little bit snappier.

tbh you don't necessarily even need to use LO for the docs, since G Docs (offline) works with odf files, though I have not used that for any complex spreadsheets or anything like that so far.

That's a thought, too ... keep it simple, if possible.

Google says it will support the Googlebook for 10 years, another thought, too.

It'll be good when the full reviews start coming out on it, and maybe some have, I haven't checked.
