My spare parts desktop and my low mileage survivor laptop cost me less than $1000.00 - together, even with an updated Nvidia card and a new spacious case for the desktop.

Boy, ain't that the reality of it! I built my current PC in 2015, most major parts were new (mobo, CPU, P/S, memory), the rest re-used, say total cash out was maybe $1100 or so. My backup machine I built in 2009 and has 18.04 loaded on it just in case ... Wow, my last CRT pooped out a couple of years ago. I didn't realize how really nice the modern presentation layer looked until I got the replacement (on sale!) 22" flat panel
