I'm about a month into using Kubuntu (or any form of Linux) seriously and Im loving it. Ive always downloaded different distros and run them via VMWare player, but never really put much time into learning them or getting used to them. It was more for having a quick look at what they are then i was done with it.
However, I downloaded Kubuntu 15.10 into a VM and actually started to seriously use it a bit and found that it worked really well for what I did. So, I took the dive and installed it on my Dell laptop as the OS. Let me say, it was the best decision Ive made in a good while.
My laptop was upgraded from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro right when the upgrade was offered. While there were plenty of things I really enjoyed about Windows 10, I found that compared to Kubuntu it lacked a lot of functionality that I needed/wanted that Kubuntu had right out of the box. LibreOffice, Dolphin, Kate, Klipper, Kontact, etc all had the functionality I wanted from those types of programs right off. I didnt have to install any plugins or third-party mods to give them the functions I wanted. They either had it right away, or it was found just simply by browsing the configuration options for each program.
What really made up my mind is the fact that there is Wine, the Windows Emulation Layer. I use a couple Windows apps running on Wine. Except for the occasional minor glitch, they work fine. The only thing I miss is some games that dont have compatibility at all, whether through Wine or other means. Ill get over it though.
Ive installed Kubuntu on both my desktop and laptop. I wont be going back to Windows unless something comes up that forces me to make the change again, though I cant imagine what that would be. Ive even installed Lubuntu on a friends laptop for them (its a pretty low spec system) and they love it as well. Nice and snappy, even on a Latitude E5400 with a single core Celeron running at 2.16 Ghz and only 2GB RAM. I donated it to him because him and his mother for reasons Im not going to go into here are pretty hard up. It gives him access to the internet and facebook, youtube along with a word processor which is exactly what he needs. From the way it runs it you would never guess that the system was that low spec.
Anyway, there is my post gushing out about Kubuntu. Keep calm and Love Kubuntu!
