this is my point ,,,,,,there should be a record of the taxes being taken out of my check and deposited in the state/Federal acct. that should be assessable to the IRS and state IRS so that pore foke like me that can barley afford gas to get to work dont get squeezed for more money they cant afford to lose

ths is the rub,,,,,,,pore people dont have the accountants to do this kind of stuff and keep the records ........thay know that hitting a lower income person will probably result in a garnishment ,,,,, and do so ,,,, so more money for the gov.

the taxes were taken out of my check (as usual) and I was owed a refund ,,,,,,,I just did not file.

I agree with your arguments, VINNY. It is my POV that the IRS is an abomination, the extent of which has been recently revealed by its use as a political weapon, and that it should be replaced with a graduated national sales tax. The more luxurious the item the higher the tax. Food, basic clothing, medicine and healthcare should be tax exempt. But, this is a discussion we've had on this forum before, so there is little use is chewing that bone again.

Which is why I both believe and understand [re:that it will never happen] that the United States Tax Code, which as of 2013 was 73,954 pages long, should be abolished in it's entirety and replaced with a National Sales Tax, established by U.S. Constitutional Amendment at ten-percent, from which no one is exempted, and which has no ceiling (no matter how little or how much one spends, they pay the 'tax').

I believe that people should reap what they sow without penalty. I believe that everyone should help pay for the society they live in/helped establish/benefit from. No one should get a 'free ride' if they have the facalties and means to contribute.

Why won't this ever happen (and yes, I know that it used to be this way; we just won't return to it again)? Because the true nature of the U.S. Tax Code is to enslave citizens; to foreever place a yolk around their necks, placing them into servitued to their 'masters'. We are not 'free' citizens, but rather, bonded and indentured slaves to out Government, and Government likes it that way and won't, in my opinion, ever relinquesh that control willingly. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Did your employer outsource their payroll to ADP or some similar outfit? If so, you might be able to obtain a W2 from that firm. Just another avenue to explore.

To come back On Topic, in The Netherlands there are also some government agencies going to pay MS for further WinXP support.

That contract apparently includes a clause they have to 'upgrade' to Win7/Win8.*.

In other words, pre-programmed and contractual lock-in, another win-win for MS.

Actually, it is phenomenally expensive for Microsoft to provide custom support for EOLed software. The fees charged are usually more than the price for an upgrade but capture only a small part of the full costs for the support. So mandating an eventual upgrade saves the customer and Microsoft money.

I don't doubt the expense for Microsoft and don't envy them for it but do see many similar contracts the world over, this could conceivably run into a hundred million per year.

Not exactly sure why you even think there's a relationship. Absolutely nothing relating to the cost of custom support or the extended deadlines for contracted upgrades has a (Democratic, Republican, other) political component.

If you wish to direct your ire about money influencing politicians, your target must necessarily be our increasingly corporatized Supreme Court and its willful ignorance of the corrupting power of limitless campaign donations.

Indeed, as an outsider I've always supported the idea of one man one vote.

But with the influence money has on the electoral system this has become a dollars for votes equation.
So my (impossible) suggestion is to limit donations to what the poorest voter can afford, say US$10.- per person per year.

As a nice side effect it would stop the hugely expensive, silly and distracting circus now dominating US elections.

I think they are using the real meaning of "elite" (someone with lots of money, power or both) rather than the meaning FOX News has forced down the throats of a significant number of people.
