How To Avoid Data Surveillance Programs.

I just noticed this article: http://www.unixmen.com/how-to-avoid-...ance-programs/.

It's interesting enough, although I think it misses some options (more email accounting or DNS server options).
Personally, I'm thinking to switch back to my ISP DNS servers and search for another email provider, keeping the Gmail one for forum - maillist registrations, RSSes and such things.

    Any opinions?
Also, do you think that Chromium is secure enough (since it have not the bundled user stats), or do I have to switch back to Firefox?

Google scrapes, combines and analyses all we do through them, that does not automatically mean they share it with 3-letter agencies without democratic control.

The recent revelations have made it clear these nefarious agencies are warrant-less leeching off the main backbones so regardless of the ISP you use for mail they can follow the links in your conversations.
Encrypting mail doesn't help much as the headers are by necessity in clear text.

Good ISP's will have the SSL/TSL option so your connection with the server is not easily breached.
But as the connections between the various ISP's are typically not secure your Meta Data can be stolen from the fat pipes between them.
This is where the recent German initiative to encrypt the data between German providers is interesting.

At least in Europe the authorities still need a court order before they will be able to get your (Meta) Data from the ISP.

Security, especially in a technical sense is not my trade but I am very interested in the legal side of the subject, for solid advise on either you need someone else
