    Ubuntu Going Commercial Mainstream!?

What do yall think of this?

    http://www.channelregister.co.uk/200...es_mainstream/

Personally, I find it very disheartening....
and I hope they still plan to release all ubuntu flavors the same way they have been for the last two years and give us the option to buy it with all the 3rd party support,. Which I know I would.

Anyway....what are everyones thoughts on this story?

    Re: Ubuntu Going Commercial Mainstream!?

I think that the media has misinterpreted/misrepresented Ubuntu. Ubuntu in that aspect. Ubuntu will always remain free of charge. What Ubuntu "going commercial" really means is that it will now have a more "publicized" commercial/paid support. This is mostly for those companies who wish to use Ubuntu but who want the "assurance" of customer service/support.

But that has always been the case anyway. Canonical has always been offering commercial support. It's no secret. Only this time, this service is more publicized because Ubuntu also aims to target business sectors. It really doesn't affect us desktop users that much. In fact, it benefits us, because now we have a "commercial" channel/repository where you can download Opera 9 and RealPlayer 10 easily.
