[ABANDONED] New "Feature"? - A notification when a display is detected. Can I turn this off?

Posting here instead of KDEneon but the Plasma versions are the same:

Recently, like in the last couple weeks, some update or another has added a pop-up notification that advises me that a "new" monitor has been detected. Actually what is happening is my monitors go into power save mode and I get the notification when I wake them up. Since I have two monitors, I get two notifications.

This is unnecessary and slightly annoying.

I can't see anywhere in system settings to modify or remove the monitor notification only. I suspect I would have to turn off ALL plug-in notifications but I really don't want to do that.

    AI Overview

A recurring "New monitor detected" pop-up in KDE Plasma 6.4.5, which appears after your monitor wakes from power-saving mode, is
a known bug. It can occur because some monitors (especially those using DisplayPort or HDMI) are treated as being completely disconnected when they enter sleep mode, causing the operating system to re-detect them when they wake up.

This issue appears to be a regression in the handling of display events in Plasma 6, particularly with the KScreen component.

    Potential solutions and workarounds

    Disable the KScreen daemon service

This is the most effective solution for many users but comes with a trade-off: you lose the convenience of dynamic display management. You will need to manually configure your screen settings using a tool like xrandr.
    • Open System Settings.
    • Navigate to Startup and Shutdown > Background Services.
    • Find and uncheck the entry for KScreen 2.
    • Log out and back in for the change to take effect.
    Reset display configuration

Sometimes, corrupt KScreen configuration files can cause issues. Deleting these files will force KDE to generate a fresh, clean configuration.
    • Open your file manager and navigate to the hidden folder ~/.local/share/kscreen/.
    • Delete all files inside this directory. You can do this from the terminal with the command: rm ~/.local/share/kscreen/*.
    • Log out and back in to regenerate the configuration. You may need to re-configure your multi-monitor setup after this.
Use xset to manually manage DPMS

Display Power Management Signaling (DPMS) may be causing the monitor to be treated as disconnected. You can experiment with xset commands in a script or terminal to find a workaround.
    • Temporarily change the DPMS settings by opening a terminal and entering a command such as xset dpms 360 420 0. This sets the standby, suspend, and off timers to different values, which can sometimes prevent the issue.
    • You can also try using xset dpms force standby to test if that state triggers the issue.
    Wait for a future update

The KDE community is aware of regressions related to display and power management in Plasma 6, and fixes are often released in point updates. If none of the workarounds are suitable, the bug may be resolved in a future version. Keep your system and packages up to date.
