[Desktop] I click on a URL in mail, how can I get my browser window to become active ?

As per the subject, I click on a URL in thunderbird and would expect that the page would open in a new tab in my browser and then become the active window ie. in front and visible.

What is happening is that the new tab opens but the browser does not become the active window. ie. if it is minimised, the icon on the taskbar gets a red tinge. If it is in the background, it will stay there. Have tried with both firefox and brave. Soooo frustrating.

Is there a way to fix this ? Firefox is able to open attachments and immediately bring the active window to the front.

I am sure that this has been discussed previously but I wasn't able to find anything definitive.

Edit: similar thing when I get a mail notification. I get the small popup showing a new message. I click on it, the thunderbird icon gets a red tinge but the window does not open, it stays minimised (in this case).

Maybe that's focus stealing prevention. System settings, window management, window behaviour, focus tab. I have it set to "Low".

Or, for finer tuning, you can set focus protection a window rule for firefox, but I've never done that.

      thanks John

Its not stealing prevention. It was originally on Low and I set it to None with no change. I will take a look at rules and see what I can get working.

some more searching - https://discuss.kde.org/t/how-to-bri...rbird/34082/24 suggests that its a problem with the snap version. I followed these instructions to uninstall the snap version and install apt. Much better. If my default browser is firefox, URL's open in a new tab. If its set to Brave, it opens a new window. Need to look at this some more... but very nearly there.

FWIW, I don't use the snap nor the APT version, rather the "download and install to /opt" version (updates are far quicker, usually a few kB instead of tens of MB).
