[Desktop] I click on a URL in mail, how can I get my browser window to become active ?

As per the subject, I click on a URL in thunderbird and would expect that the page would open in a new tab in my browser and then become the active window ie. in front and visible.

What is happening is that the new tab opens but the browser does not become the active window. ie. if it is minimised, the icon on the taskbar gets a red tinge. If it is in the background, it will stay there. Have tried with both firefox and brave. Soooo frustrating.

Is there a way to fix this ? Firefox is able to open attachments and immediately bring the active window to the front.

I am sure that this has been discussed previously but I wasn't able to find anything definitive.

Edit: similar thing when I get a mail notification. I get the small popup showing a new message. I click on it, the thunderbird icon gets a red tinge but the window does not open, it stays minimised (in this case).
