checking to see if wayland is installed

my system is running PLASMA X11 and i want to switch to wayland, but i dont seem to have that option. rebooting the xomputer to the login screen there is no little gear icon to switch between x11 and wayland.
So i would like to check and see if wayland is installed and if not get it installed.
As a side quetion how do i upgrade to 26.04 wayland is the default on the newest release.
X11 has been working fine but there is a piece of linux software that will only run on wayland that i would like to use.

thank you in advance for your help and suggestions.

    What is it?

You need to add a login session option to your login, which can be done by installing plasma-workspace-wayland

But a caveat -- Wayland in Plasma 5 is not mature in many areas, compared to to Plasma 6. It may even be quite terrible, especially on Nvidias graphics.

      What claydoh says.

As for system info, it's a bit of an overkill, but run this command in Konsole:
      inxi -Fxxx
Then study the output. Probably under Graphics > Display.

          Correct.
You can also use a GUI package management tool called Syanptic if you want. You can find it in Discover,

There will be a notification popup when LTS-LTS upgrades are officially enabled. This won't happen until October, per standartd Ubuntu S.O.P.

You CAN upgrade early if you wish, but is not officially supported.
The instructions are the same or similar for all Ubuntu Flavours, so you can follow THIS for the purpose.

You can easily check if you are using a Wyaland session from Info Center, or System Settings:

You can upgrade now manually, but it's generally not advised. Make a backup first if you decide to try it.
