Printer misery - Epson printer stopped working

Printing is driving me crazy in Linux!

Yesterday, my Epson Et-2825 was still working fine (after I had spent several hours to get it working last week).

Now it won't print anymore. The printer had disappeared from System Settings, so I tried to re-install the drivers.
The Epson print utility can communicate with it and shows the correct ink levels.
I can scan from it just fine.
But any print jobs get refused. They appear in the queue, but they won't print. This is crazy!

And I can still print from my Windows PC.

Nothing has changed on the printer side. Why is printing so complicated and unstable

This morning I tried to remove the printer to re-install from scratch.
The printer was automatically detected again but still wouldn't print. After trying to re-install manually I got a test page printed, but 5 minutes later it wouldn't print anymore again.
After lots of trying I saw the printer twice and I could print through one of them.

Now, this afternoon, I could only see one and when I printed, the job went to the queue but wasn't printed as the printer was powered off. Normally, just switching the printer on should print it, but nothing happened.

      Restarting CUPS has no effect.

The Epson Printer Utility sees it (as ready) and I can, for example, run a nozzle check.
So the printer is definitely available and can communicate with the PC.
And I can scan with SkanLite, no problem. This is crazy.

Ok, update: I noticed that it showed the printer as "EPSON4E057C.local" and I remembered that I had issues connecting to my NAS through smb because Dolphin, for no reason at all, would try to connect to "NameOfMyNAS.local" instead of simply "NameOfMyNAS" (which was what I had entered!).
So I removed that stupid ".local" from the printer name and now it works. Question is again, how long? Will it still work after a reboot? Or after the printer was switched off and on again? To be continued ...

I just read you post # 3. Sounds very familiar!
        I use the K > Settings > Printer.
I see the things there that you are encountering.

        Now here's the deal:
You may have 2 or even 3 listings there for your printer.
You can highlight each of them, right?
And you can make one of them the Default Printer, right there in that screen.
When you print a page and open the print dialog, make sure that the Default Printer is selected to print it.

If you lose this setting somehow, go back, delete them all, they will magically reappear, and you again select one to be the Default.

        Sometimes this will stick indefinitely.
Sometimes you may have to futz with it like this a couple-three times, now and then.

My last "fix" has stuck well and is working fine now for a couple months with no problems.
