Big windows, big icons, cannot change it.

    Hello,

My Kubuntu 24.04 installation looks quite the way I want it. However, there is a little problem with the size of some Icons in Dolphin. In the image: "Big Icons" you can see the row on top of the window is extremely large.
The second problem occurs when I want to save a document. The window that opens for saving is so big it covers two screens and I cannot seem to make it smaller whatsoever. Also in this window the icons are extremely big and I cannot seem to make them smaller in the system settings either. In both problems the normal adjusting options are not available, not working. I already tried to tweak around with the resolution of both screens. It are two VGA screens with a maximum resolution of 1366 x 768 (16:9). Checking the drivers for the GPU might also be a thing to look into. A part from that I hope someone can give me the advice to fix this once and for all.

if it were a resolution thing, all the elements would be giant as well.

What is the icon theme? Source for it?
Does temporarily switching to a different icon set (and logging out) change anything regarding the size?

This is ONLY happening in Dolphin and the KDE file picker?

Duh, my memory kicked in, and I have not used a toolbar with many icons in ages.

Right-click on the toolbar or one of the icons and look for size settings there. It may be somewhere else on Plasma 5, but I don't think it will be too much different from my Plasma 6, Dolphin 25.04.1

Answer to last question: Yes only there so far.
Icon theme: "Buuf for many desktops". Downloaded and installed it directly from KDE through the system settings.
Change of icons did not make any difference and right clicking on of the icons did not give me the option to change sizes either. There was only the option: standard but nothing more. This was also the case with another icon theme.

just remember that anything you download and add to kubuntu past the "get new..." button are all created by 3rd party developers with varying skill and quality control.... some of it is excellent and some of it is less so.

Unfortunately I only see the option "standard" where on your picture there are also other options. When I tried other icons, the same problem occured...
I do not have this problem on my main machine at home and I use the same Icons there.

Can you explain where you see "Standard" because it's nowhere in my image.

Indeed, the right word in English is "default" or in Dutch "standaard".
so "default" it is, that is the only option I have, also here on my main machine. I am beginning to think it might be a resolution thingy after all which is could not be the case according to Claydoh.
Here on this computer there are screens connected with HD resolutions. The machine with the problem has to VGA screens with lower resolutions. Could it be these icons are only made specifically for HD resolutions? (1920 X 1080)

Testing. Installed 'Buff for many desktops' on my 24.04 installation. Icons all are sized correctly. Only one monitor on the desktop PC, a Dell U2715H (2560x1440).

                        Been away for some time.
The only finding I have so far is that the problem does not occur on my machines with HD-screens connected by HDMI. The machine that has the problem has two VGA screens connected to it. I might want to connect a HD-screen to it later on.
On the other hand Claydoh stated everything would be giant if it was a resolution problem. Another option might be that simply something unexplainable went wrong during the installation, as I have seen happening more often...
