[SOLVED] 2nd monitor regularly goes black

I am using an older Dell XPS Laptop. Just installed Kubuntu 20.04. I have a 2nd monitor connected. It occasionally will black out for a second, an HDMI connection logo appears for a second, then it reconnects. Happens regularly. I tried using different cables and a different monitor. No difference. When the system was a Windows 7 PC, the hardware worked perfectly. Any idea what it might be and the fix?

    Here are the specs:
    • Operating System: Kubuntu 20.04
    • KDE Plasma Version: 5.18.5
    • KDE Frameworks Version: 5.68.0
    • Qt Version: 5.12.8
    • Kernel Version: 5.4.0-58-generic
    • OS Type: 64-bit
    • Processors: 8 × Intel® Core™ i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz
    • Memory: 7.7 GiB of RAM

    Thanks for any help.

Looks at these logs for error messages:

    /var/log/Xorg.0.log
    ~/.xsession-errors

Might be a poor video driver choice. What video card are you using and driver?

Ok.. fixed issue. It was the HDMI Cable. I was using an older (thin) HDMI cable. I switched it out for a high quality cable (much thicker and better connectors). Problem solved.

Thanks for the help. Appreciate it.
