fprint is the fingerprint reader but not many are supported as of right now. You might want to do a larger internet search for your specific model and "Ubuntu"

I have the same query - I can't find support for fingerprint anywhere on Kubuntu 20.04 :-)

Just wondering... how encrypted/secured would your fingerprints be on such a reader?
Because I wouldn't really want mine to end up on all sorts of dodgy databases, would I?

Again, it entirely depends on the specific fingerprint sensor one has. Mostly a very limited number of readers, mostly on a few Thinkpads.
Support is limited, and there won't be any sort of plasma integration, methinks

          Starting points

NOTE: Fingerprint GUI is no longer maintained and is not compatible with Ubuntu 20.04 and newer

Thank you for the resources claydoh - I was hoping for official support in Kubuntu 20.04 much like the Ubuntu 20.04 has :-(

I didn't see any option to add fingerprint in settings. Is there one ?

I have the fingerprint reader working very well on my Thinkpad T460s. If your device is supported by fprint then it is an easy task to get it up and running. The only issue is that ALL authentication will be done by fingerprint. No more password. The SDDM login screen is what keeps you from having both. What I did was install Lightdm as the desktop manager and you can then have a password as a fallback.
