Running sudo apt autoremove is safe.

autoremove (apt-get(8))

autoremove is used to remove packages that were automatically installed to satisfy dependencies for other packages and are now no longer needed as dependencies changed or the package(s) needing them were removed in the meantime. You should check that the list does not include applications you have grown to like even though they were once installed just as a dependency of another package. You can mark such a package as manually installed by using apt-mark(8). Packages which you have installed explicitly via install are also never proposed for automatic removal.

looks like you can proceed with the upgrade. (meaning pressing enter (Y) after the sudo apt install kubuntu-desktop command )
wait till it's completely done , then reboot , and you can run autoremove again

That seemed to have done it. I've run sudo apt install kubuntu-desktop, then rebooted and ran sudo apt autoremove and sudo apt update and sudo apt upgrade and now everything has updated except a few due to phasing. The system is now running KDE Plasma Version 6.6.5, KDE Frameworks Version 6.24.0 and Qt Version 6.10.2 as well and it was able to update everything in Discover. I'd like to thank you all very much for your help! Without it I wouldn't have gotten very far. Have a great day!
