[Desktop] Session switching X11 to Wayland does not work as expected.

Testing the ability to switch from Wayland to X11 and back using a VM.

    The following actions work:
    • Installing X11
    • Logging into X11 or Wayland after reboot
    • Logging out of Wayland and re-logging into X11
Logging out of X11 and re-logging into Wayland does not work. This does switch you to a Wayland desktop but no panel appears. I have to reboot to get a working Wayland log-in.

Works for me on my HP laptop. Upgraded from 24.04.4 LTS to 26.04 LTS yesterday. But, not a VM installation.

        A VM specific issue?
If you have a cursor, try using krunner to (re)start plasmashell:

        Code:
        plasmashell --replace
The only thing I have seen when switching between x11 and Wayland, on real hardware is that each session might have its own monitor configs, at least partially, and mainly noteceable on dual screen setups.

I have not seen this happen on my VMs, though I have not tried x11 yet for 26.04 in virt-manager. I will spin one up later.

Ok, can confirm this panel oddity happens in virt-manager, even when trying different virtual graphics options.

However, it does not happen on my physical install.

I note that in virt-manager, when switching from x11 to wayland without a reboot, it also takes a lot longer to load the desktop after login as well.

The panel is sort of hiding, I guess? It is there, supposedly. Adding a new panel also does not show up on the desktop, but does show in the config tool along with the original one.
