Tried an install of 26.04 and also got no further than the mounting of the partition stage. Installed KDE Neon instead.

In time: Daily Image below from today 2026/02/03 still has a problem. Use the snapshot 3 version above.

Try booting to a Live session desktop. "Edit" the Installer Icon that's on the desktop, copy the command line from the icon details, and paste it into a Konsole window. This might reveal an actual error and might be good info if you want to file a bug report.
I actually did run it for the terminal, it just said something like Running command "mount". Calamares is crashing.

I have been testing 26.04 resolute racoon daily builds. Not via KVM.

Anyway, there is a bug on Calamares Installer that prevents it to be installed using daily build 20260201 and daily build 20260202. At least for me and my setup. The bug happens exactly when doing partitioning setup for the disk. In my case: # erase disk and install #.

Daily Build 20263101 is working like a charm. On Index there is not this daily build anymore. Only 2026/02/01 and 2026/02/02.

Any one testing the Daily Builds of this via KVM? (Using 25.04, I have a reason for this, don't think it matters here really, but maybe it does... )
    8C/16T AMD with 32GB RAM and host is kernel Linux rec9140-2504 6.14.0-15-generic #15-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Sun Apr 6 15:05:05 UTC 2025 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

If that matters any, don't think so... but hey... may as well..

I may be biting off more than I should in this with KVM ( normally begrudgingly use VBOX, which is why I am using 25.04 for one thing, this is the first go around with KVM) and an alpha build, but hey.. Its more fun that way right?

Any way I grabbed the build ISO from yesterday 2/1/26, and it will boot in KVM under "Try" if I click the Installer to run it, it starts to do the install and implodes on itself spectacularly as its looks like its doing the partitioning setup for the VDISK (25GB)

I really prefer to do this in a VM situation v. bare metal, as the box I have for bare metal is not all that great, and I really need to use it for some other "experiments" right now.

So any one doing this in KVM? Thanks!

To give an overview of the dependence of KDE Plasma development and its dependence on Frameworks and Qt, I refer you to the site:

    https://community.kde.org/Schedules/Plasma_6

where you will find the interdependence of Plasma and the other versions listed above. So I hope the Schedules help to explain what the future development process involves.

it's impressive that they were able to get to 6.5.anything for 26.04... the LTS folks are on top if it.

    nice work.

by the time 26.10 rolls around we may see 6.6 available in backports if they don't get it into the initial release.

It is almost 100% guaranteed, really. I haven't asked if this is the plan, but long-time history points that way.

    6.6.0 release date
    and
    Ubuntu UI Freeze
and if I am wrong and this freeze is not relevant,
Then the Feature Freeze is still in a nicely favorable window.

I wonder if we'll ever see Plasma 6.6 in the final release so far it's rock stable with everything I throw at it.

It is now 3 Months to go before the release of Resolute Raccoon 26.04 LTS.

The developers are certainly continuing to provide updates to this system and I continue to find it completely stable.

To show the progress over the last month, the table below gives the current 3 month and the previous month info centre status.

4 Months to Kubuntu 26.04 LTS 3 Months to Kubuntu 26.04 LTS
    KDE Plasma Version 6.5.4 6.5.5
    KDE Frameworks Version 6.21 6.22.0
    QT Version 6.9.2 6.9.2
    Application Version 4:25.12.0 4:25.12.1
    Kernel Version 6.18.0-8-generic 6.18.0-9-generic

As you can see, the major versions have been advanced. I am very impressed with what the developers have achieved and are to be congratulated on a job well done

I certainly hope that others on this forum are successful with getting 26.04 installed. I suspect that some of you weary with the frequent updates, so I hope you can enjoy the progress being made.

All the very best for the New Year and all that it holds for the Kubuntu forum, members and developers.

I still have Resolute Raccoon installed on all my Laptops together with my favourite applications. So I have listed the current progress since the first release of 26.04 below.
Ist Release of Kubuntu 26.04 LTS 4 Months to Kubuntu 26.04 LTS
    KDE Plasma Version 6.5.2 6.5.4

    Application Version 4:25.08.1 4:25.12.0
    Kernel Version 6.17.0-5-generic 6.18.0-8-generic
As you can see, all major versions have been advance except the QT Version. I am very impressed with what the developers have achieved and are to be congratulated on a job well done.

I certainly hope that others on this forum are successful with getting 26.04 installed and are enjoying its stability. I am not sure how many updates to this system will happen between now and the new year. I hope that those involved in develpment have a well earned break. I certainly look forward to the developments of this LTS in the New Year.

Many thanks for developing such a great system and Happy Christmas to all who contributed and best wishes to the forum members.
