At this point it might be easier and quicker to take your Karmic ISO, reinstall it, install Synaptic, open Synaptic and locate your ati video driver (assuming your video is working), click on the "Package" menu option, and then click on the "Lock Version" submenu option to LOCK the working version of your Ati video driver so that future updates do not change it.

if you're installing a package that's in the repo's

apt-get update
apt-get install package-name

If you trying to get an outside package you can download it with

wget http://url_to_file/file_name

and then install it with

dpkg -i file_name

thank you for the vote of confidence.. i tried but i did not get it working so now i will start from scratch...will try to follow step 2 and 3 on the list...before installing any drivers..

i just hope i can still control my fan speed with those new drivers...
