Yes - my first "machine" was an ibm360 magnetic core model with a whopping 4k. I guess that qualifies me to use the term "console". I don't think "Terminal" is any more correct. I usually type "konsole" so everyone knows what I mean.

Agree. I started using vi for quick editing of files from the CLI. It is a (very) powerful editor, but it isn't the easiest to master, that's for sure. nano is much easier to 'learn' and has become my CLI editor of choice.

To be honest, I've never tried nano. I learned to use vi back in the days when you had to do lots of fiddling with xorg.conf to get good performance.

I typically only use it to get back to being able to boot into graphics mode.
