true but thay will learn by doing faster if thay arnt lead down the rong path.

The existing kernel is so far upgrading not supposing to harm users instead friendly and easy to install.

not realey shure what you mean hear.....but one realey shouldent be just installing kernels willey nilley and if you ment grub2 thats not the kernel it's the boot loader ......the thread you were refering to was about the kernel and grub BUT it was talking about grub menu not geting updated whien a new kernel was installed and was booting the old kernel.......the work was to get it to point at the new kernel.

if the OP was using the old grub (like me) and your post got me to install grub2 my system mite be all mesed up now and being new to this I mite not know how to fix it witch would have me mad at YOU

Hi everyone,

I had decided to just leave as it is and just cranked my amps up to get a little sound - which wasn't that bad - at least i can listen to quiet music. However, now I would like to fix this issue - do you think the grub thingy works? I haven't tried it... any other clues - maybe?

all I can think of now is sense you say you do have sound just low volume that some thing is week in the setup.........or dose it play ok on a diferent OS?

Yes, I still have Windows vissta parallel installed as my machine came with it as OEM. If I bootup there, it plays just fine...

dose your box have multipul outputs......like mine has some in frunt and some in back onley the back ones work rite with linux but all work with windows........Just a thought

Yes, I have two line-out on the back and i have a pair of speakers connected to both of them...

Hello, Came back from my holiday vacation and realized that my sound issue is still pending, any other ideas how i can get my volume turned back up to normal maybe?

You have the volume icon in the system tray, yes? The 'speaker' icon? Click on it and then click on Mixer. This will present you with the controls. Check the position of the PCM control. If this is towards the bottom, move it up. Careful. The PCM, if set to high, can really distort the sound. You will want to 'test' this setting along with the Master control to get a good mix for your system.

That's the problem, the only channels i have available (in configure channels) are
Front
Line
Microphone
Pcm2
IGain
Line1
Digital1
I did select them all and the volume is all the way open for all of them!

No Master and PCM!? That can't be right. If you open a console and type:

alsamixer

do you still not see a Master and PCM channel control?

Use your package manager and check to see if you have alsa-utils installed. I'm betting you don't. If you don't, install it and then check to see if you can't adjust your sound correctly,
