Sorry that I could not help you.
When I have run into difficulties like this, I copied the home directory and the /etc directory to an external drive and then did a fresh install. I find that this saves me a lot of time and I have more functional system.

Hi,
Was just thinking about this problem again.
When you go to Skype and click on Options -> Sound Devices, what did you use for Sound In and for Sound out?
I read somewhere that choosing the correct device and using that device with plughw in it's name works better.
Have you tried that?

Since yesterday I am having the same problem with my skype, twinkle (voip), etc.

Both on JJ and KK.

My laptop works fine

My sound card: Intel ICH [SiS SI7012]

Is there cli to test is my microphone jack is still working?

My internal microphone was not working too, so I used external. It worked after some settings in kmixer: front mic, Capture channel, front mic boost, input source.
Hardware: Acer Aspire One D150
I set in Skype for Input Sound HDA Intel (hw:Intel,0)

Updated on 2.8. 13:00 (to be more specific):
- My internal microphone was not working from the start with a new computer.
- I was surprised when I found that an external and internal microphone can have different solution.

My mic is external and worked fine up until yesterday. But thankx anyway
