    I ran into a bad sector and a FAT32 partition a few years back. I ended up purchasing SpinRite and using that to recover the partition. And... since my pictures and music where on the drive, I recovered them using PhotoRec (which is written by the same programmer as TestDisk).

    SpinRite does cost $89.00 USD. It was worth the money so my wife wouldn't kill me for losing all of our family photos. There is no free version, unfortunately.

    I have not used FAT32 since. Except for USB thumb drives.

      I quickly checked the Seagate Knowledge Base, and it indicated that bad data transmission could cause a bad sector read. So, before chasing the bad sectors, you might first get a new SATA cable (connecting your hard drive to the SATA port on your motherboard). Radio Shack, Best Buy, a PC shop, almost anywhere. Re-boot and see what GParted (or the diagnostic you've chosen to run) tells you.
