Hi There,
Following - I followed the instructions on http://www.kubuntu.org/news/kde-4.2 in order to update my machine to KDE 4.2 - which didn't work successfully- first i got KDE 4.2 up but the window decoration was gone...
well i googled around and did plenty of apt-get and dpkg commands trying to uninstall, reinstall or install certain packages - but i didn't get it all up and going.
Where I'm at now is: I can change to the console, change to root (sudo -s) and make a startx and KDE 4.2 comes up just nicely but only as root, when i try to login as any user i always get that little message saying "kstartupconfig4 does not exist or fails. the errorcode is 3. check your installation." and i can't get rid of it...What's going wrong? This apparently must be a permission problem. What do I need to check? /usr/bin/kstartupconfig4 has following permissions: "-rwxr-xr-x reg users" - reg is my username - so this should not be the problem - what else do i need to look at?
Thanks!
Ron
