    Widgets Change Position after Reboot

I have a Hard Disk Space Usage widget on my Primary monitor. This monitor has a UHD screen, 3840x2160, and I have set it to 2560x1440. I find this setting gives acceptable icon and font sizes.

However with this setting, my Hard Disk widget changes position on reboot. It initially starts at the original position before logout but then quickly jumps to another nearby location.

I have found that if I go to the UHD screen size, it doesn't change location on reboot. To me it looks like KDE have not used the selected display settings in System Settings but have used the maximum resolution for the monitor.

Another feature that I believe is related to this, is the fact that when I often start applications on my primary monitor when it is at 2560x1440, the title bar is off screen and I have to select Move to get access to the application control buttons.

I am not sure if this is a Kubuntu or KDE problem. I have found bug reports related to this problem, but what I have described here is not as "serious" as the ones I have found. If there is some easy way to fix this layout problem, please let me know.

You might check ownership of the files in your home directory. Your glitch is a bit like problems caused by plasma being unable to write something, but I can't imagine how.

I think there are bug reports on this, as it seems to be a somewhat common problem with Plasma, particularly with multiple monitors. There have been some mentions of similar things on KDE's forum and subReddit. Don't know if there is a resolution or not, but it may be worth taking a look over on those places for extra input on this.

I have checked .config, .kde and .local and as the Owner, I Can View & Modify Contents. I ticked the box for "apply changes to all subfolders and their contents". This small change made no difference.

What is odd is that if I set my laptop screen to the highest resolution, the widget doesn't change position on reboot. It is only when I use a lower resolution that the widget changes location on reboot.

While I have multiple monitors, ie one external monitor, this problem still exists if I remove the external monitor.

I have KDE Plasma Version 5.16.90 and it provides excellent options for resizing widgets. I did a search using "how to stop KDE widgets from changing position after reboot". The responses related to older versions and covered cases such rescaling widgets and panel problems.

I have decided to illustrate the problem that I reported in this post. The first graphic shows the location of the Widget where I want it.

The second shows its location after reboot or logout and login.

If I leave this relocated Widget as is, then on reboot it stays in exactly the same position. This is why I think the location of the Widget is calculated using the wrong screen size.

OK, it doesn't address the problem, or offer a solution.
But this conky bit, it takes about half the space that widget does, never moves ;·) and gives you quite a bit more info... Click image for larger version
