[LAPTOP] External disks only recognised on 2nd attempt

When I plug in a USB drive it shows up in Dolphin but a first click on it will result in an error, (translated) An error happened accessing the "Personal Folder", the system reports: the device is already mounted: /dev/mmcblk0p1 is already mounted at /media/teunis/name of disk/

The same happens for a disk in a caddy and an SD card in the SD slot.
    The notifier gives "Invalid URL".

A second attempt will work as expected.
I believe it was shortly after 18.04 came out I saw a report with solution but can no longer find it.

This was, or rather is, a widespread problem; there is a race condition when new media is mounted. The mount works but some KDE component gets some message early which it interprets as a failure.

    See, f.ex. KDE bug 370975

It's fixed for me now in 18.10. I'm surprised it is still present in an updated 18.04; maybe it's fixed via backports.
    Regards, John Little

Fixed here in Neon 18.04 but it was more than slightly annoying while it lasted...

Yeah it works fine in Neon.
But it's still present in my up to dat 18.04, I might try installing from the latest iso.

Before you do that, might I suggest upgrading to the latest Hardware Enablement Stack?

          sudo apt install linux-generic-hwe-18.04

            Thnaks, a good idea.
Strange this is not handled in the regular upgrades.
Regretfully it did not offer a solution.
