    [SOLVED] HP Printer not working

Since installing 18.04 my wireless HP Envy printer does not work. The scanner does work.
HP Envy comes up as the default printer when I print but the printer queue shows as 'busy' and the job status shows as '-'
have re-installed 18.04 but the problem remains.
Deleting and re-installing the printer doesn't help either.
I've updated hplips but can't see how to invoke the HP printer manager gui
    Any advice welcome

OK, have managed to run the HP device manager, discovery shows 'no installed HP devices found.
    Ran
    Code:
    sudo cat /etc/cups/printers.conf
    which gave:-
    Code:
    # Printer configuration file for CUPS v2.2.7
    # Written by cupsd
    # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE WHEN CUPSD IS RUNNING

I believe that configuring the HPLIP GUI with a wireless HP printer, requires that the printer first be connected via USB. I installed my HP wireless printer that way (not an Envy), and it works just fine with either USB or wifi.

Yes, thanks for the idea. It's a bit difficult to pysicaly move the printer the printer , but I could try it.
I've always found HP printers easy to connect over the wifi though.

Another thought. My previous installation of Kubuntu (16.10?) managed the printer installation just fine.
I'll give it another day then find a usb lead, remove the printer from an awkward place and do it that way

Success, I went back to the resident printer gui (not the HP one) and realised that it easily detected the printer on the network.
I removed the printer and re-installed it selecting the recommended drive.
              The printer now works fine
