DVD played via external DVD drive does not run

    Hello,

I'm running 16.04 LTS on an Asus laptop. I have an LG DVD Writer connected to my computer via the USB port. When I attempt to play a DVD, the computer reads the it, and the movie's name shows up in Dolphin, but VLC player and Dragon Player are both unable to actually play the movie.

Am I missing some kind of driver necessary driver that allows the DVD drive to communicate with the operating system?

    Thank you!

    Most likely.
    Install libdvdnav4
    and libdvdread4
    and libdvdcss2

More than likely the last one is what you are missing. It may be in the package Kubuntu-restricted-addons

Thanks very much! Installing the last one, libdvdcss2 allowed the DVD to play!
