    Canon printer

Hi, I've just installed Vivid over my previous 14.10 installation, in which my Canon MG5200 printer was working well using Michael Gruz PPA. I've tried to install his drivers on Vivid but that doesn't seem to work as apt-get can't find them.

Has anybody succeeded in getting their Canon printer working yet?

    Many thanks for any help.

    You DID enable his PPA?
Because during an upgrade the PPA's are switched off.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Yes, the PPA is enabled (via the command line and updated).

No problem here with the Canon MG5250. using the Cups+Gutenprint 5.2.10 driver in the standard Cups database...

btw, last update in de PPA is 4 years (203 weeks) ago

Is yours connected directly or is it WiFi?

I should maybe add mine's on WiFi. I've manually installed drivers and have the scanning function working and the printer menu shows the printer, but the buttons to add it are greyed out.

Sorry, just wanted to add that I used Michael's PPA for 14.04 and .10 and they worked perfectly.

I can't even configure the printer. It doesn't show in the setup page. No printers at all. The printer is active and working as it's showing on my wife's PC on Kubuntu 14.10.

Vivid doesn't even see the printer on the network, so I can't install it to use built-in drivers. But it did with the Gruz PPA drivers in 14.04 and .10

Give it a static up or set a DHCP reservation and set it up as an IPP printer (mine would be ipp://192.168.0.105)

Well, I've solved the printer problem, but not by any of the suggested methods - none worked.

I installed the drivers downloaded from the Canon website http://www.canon.co.uk/support/consu...ma_mg5250.aspx

and installed those from the command line using this guide http://tutorialforlinux.com/2015/02/...ux-easy-guide/.

My thanks for your advice, sadly that route proved fruitless :-/
