KDE/Xorg no longer starts with system

I ran the simulation test command and this is what I got:

I have been regularly using Muon for update/upgrading ever since installation of kubuntu 14.04 on this Lenova Thinkcenter desktop.
It seems my system must be good.

yea. the simulation is great! what are your repositories? how many do you have?

ive played around with it with different edits of sources.list , for example just leaving one repository there: 'main' and then running simulation where the dist-upgrade among the updates wanted to remove 4 programs - seeing them unfit , he he, i guess. it's very cool option.

btw.ubuntu wiki is almost useless. like this entry https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootServices

1. bum is frikking crap, shows like 4 services running on my server, doesnt show squid, doesnt show plexmediaserver and i know those are running

its difficult to find any useful information there.

seriously toying with the idea of rebuilding the server on a SSD with Debian just to have a useful wiki to learn from.

Here is a snapshot of my sources. I konw it my be non-readable due to small letters. The first one is Canonical partners, second one is Independent, 3rd Libreoffice, 4th Claydoh's Kmymoney, 5th Google Talk plugin and the last one Kubuntu's backport.

It's in Universe. If you've enabled only Main, that's why you aren't seeing it:

maybe because i ended up doing dist-upgrade this afternoon..

An achilles heel, dist-upgrade is not; for Kubuntu or other. One just needs to understand the difference between upgrade and dist-upgrade.

       upgrade
           upgrade is used to install the newest versions of all packages currently installed on the system from the sources enumerated in /etc/apt/sources.list. Packages currently
           installed with new versions available are retrieved and upgraded; under no circumstances are currently installed packages removed, or packages not already installed
           retrieved and installed. New versions of currently installed packages that cannot be upgraded without changing the install status of another package will be left at their
           current version. An update must be performed first so that apt-get knows that new versions of packages are available.

       dist-upgrade
           dist-upgrade in addition to performing the function of upgrade, also intelligently handles changing dependencies with new versions of packages; apt-get has a "smart"
           conflict resolution system, and it will attempt to upgrade the most important packages at the expense of less important ones if necessary. The dist-upgrade command may
           therefore remove some packages. The /etc/apt/sources.list file contains a list of locations from which to retrieve desired package files. See also apt_preferences(5) for a
           mechanism for overriding the general settings for individual packages.

dist-upgrade is the only thing I use, and my system is, has been, and will remain, rock solid stable.

had 120 odd updates waiting as i was too chicken to update for a while..
but decided to give it a shot today,
and you know what?
updates were a 320mb download, and it worked flawlessly not one issue with it. obviously when i br0ked a few things in the past i did the upgrade thing...

i have so much to learn! thanks again!

APT/dpkg are really quite good at what they do
