    Software to rename files and reduce them

    In Windows I have two programmes one of which is a very good file renamer (Will work in batches). The other one I use for reducing jpgs to email size. Both of them are simple to use and I am wondering if there any suggestions for linux replacements.

      File renamer: krename - installs as a service menu (just right click and select it from Actions). Takes a bit to learn but very powerful. I use it all the time.

      Another service menu for graphics stuff: kim (Kde Image Menu). Convert, resize, compress, rotate - you name it - all from a right click.

            your animation is just...... jarring! lol I have NEVER seen it in a forum post!

            Methinks that thou hast inadvertently stumbled onto how "how tos" should be done in the future!

            AND........to the OP, this is a fascinating thread/question, I learned something today and will use the software mentioned to reduce image sizes so that I can use them in my lectures!

            Why you say? Well, the image size for a " presentation" is not "that" large. Because it is large on the screen.

            I build the basic presentation in Kpresenter and then convert it to .ppt in Impress so that I can use it at the college.

            BUT>......and this is a BIG BUT!!!.......... If one places a "large" image, and drags it to "small"...many times the conversion puts the image back to original size and it is just a pain in the .......butt....... sic :0 to resize it.

            I learned a long time ago to place a "small" image and drag it "big" so if there is a bollix up it goes small does not cause a big problem to resize it for the .ppt.

            SO............thanks AGAIN!!!

            P.S. comment: to stave off getting grief from some people about "why go to the trouble to start with a proggy that does not have "complete compatibility" with.......... MS!! ??

            Ummmmmm the REASON, is because MOST people NEVER actually have to "interface" with a ms product directly, if they use Linux.

            Ummmmmmm "Linux people" ......LOVE APPLE products and they did NOT provide "complete compatibility" with MS products for a long time..and the apple people got along fine it seems...

            SO WHY THE HASSEL over Koffice stuff?

            I use Koffice (calligra) exclusively now and when it needs to interface with MS products then I export it, because

            If I REALLY espouse open source products.

            SECOND NOTE:

            MS, if one puts the .odt, or .odp file on a NON-rewriteable medium, such as a cd............ will.....

            that is............will............. open and display an odt, odp item after a little bit of complaining.

            Just 'double click" once, it will complain that MS(product) can't open it, then the cd will spin a while.

            Then a dialog box will open saying that it can't run it and to repair it, click it once, it will "try to repair" and then pop another box saying to cancel, do not cancel, just click the X and it will then "repair" it and display the item.

            WHAT MS IS DOING WHEN IT IS REPAIRING A WRITEABLE FILE

            that is a WRITEable file, is that it.........

            reads it just fine and then puts "a white cover" over say.....a few of the slides and then, SAYS

            "Sorry, I encountered some corrupted slides and replaced them with blank slides go ahead and use it in repaired mode".

            However, if you take that "repaired" ppt home, put it on a Linux system it displays just fine.

            the whole "xml" thing has part of it wherein a "script" can be placed to do this.

            Look at the original file size, and the "repaired" one and the repaired one is always larger. Remove the .xml script and the original file is there.

            I figured this out, what........... 8 years ago........and nobody listens....

            I would bet that the EUROPEANS figured it out also.......8 years ago......and that is why all the lawsuits in the EU against MS. dunno, just a thought

            Now.....again.........rendering can be iffy sometimes if one uses and oddball font........

            so...........I use Ariel. 'nuff said.

                I tried getting both of the above by apt-get but got nowhere. Where should I look and how to install them. Thank you.

                  Hi,

                  Open the Muon Software centre and use the search bar.

                  Often the packages names and program names are different, which is probably why you had no luck with apt-get.
