you can ,,,,,it is as simple as Kickoff>applications>system>Kwalletmanager>setting s>configure wallet ,,,, and uncheck the "enable the KDE wallet subsystem" line and click "apply"
I have never had the wallet bother me after doing this ,,,,,,,never.

I see your point, perhaps it's the name (wallet) that alarms people, if somebody got a hold of my actual physical wallet, the one with my credit cards, etc in it, I would be toast, burnt toast identity theft and fraud wise.

I was having lots of trouble with Kwallet and that was naturally interfering with other applications, so I started using KeePassX and so far I like it a lot. The problem was I couldn't get rid of Kwallet. Things I tried that each failed in various ways to fix the problem:

    • turning off the wallet feature in Kickoff-> Applications-> System-> KDE Wallet Manager-> Settings-> Configure Wallet
    • removing these two kwallet files and starting over:
      ~/.kde/share/apps/kwallet/kdewallet.kwl
      ~/.kde/share/config/kwalletrc
    • using Synaptic to remove kwalletmanager and reinstall
    • purging kwalletmanager with 'sudo apt-get purge kwalletmanager'
    • using 'ps -ef | grep wallet' to find kwalletd in /usr/bin/kwalletd and remove it
    • nevertheless finding kwalletd running through KSysGuard and seeing that after killing the process I was able to use KeePassX and do operations normally
    • rebooting and seeing the same old KDE Daemon window asking for my wallet password and refusing to accept the correct one
    • turning off any saving of sessions or automatic starting of applications
    • using the locate database to find more related files and deleting these:
      /usr/lib/libkwalletbackend.so.4
      /usr/lib/libkwalletbackend.so.4.10.5
      /usr/lib/kde4/libkdeinit/libkdeinit4_kwalletd.so

And that did it, finally. For good measure I deleted /usr/share/kde4/services/kwalletd.desktop, did a 'sudo apt-get clean', and checked /var/cache/apt/archives/ but found nothing there that looked relevant (interesting, though, h/t Vinny!). Now I can reboot or log out and back in without interference from Kwalletmanager, I didn't have to remove the Personal Information Manager (PIM) of Kontact, Kmail, and so on, and at this point everything seems hunky-dory.

Many thanks, as always, to those who helped me find the path that worked!

    Code:
    kdesudo dolphin
    Navigate to /usr/share/autostart/

Pesky things hide in there, things you/I don't want starting.

you may want to get rid of the /usr/share/kde4/services/kwalletd.desktop as well
    and do a
    Code:
    sudo apt-get clean
I see you still have the 2 wallet .deb's in /var/cache/apt/archives/ so who knows what elce is in their ,,, APT keeps the .deb's you install their ,,,,,,all of them so after a mager update like KDE-4.10 to 4.11 it can become quite large

the "apt-get clean" will remove them .

The locate database gets updated only once per day/reboot (one or the other). I always update it's database after making changes:
    Code:
    updatedb

locate apparently didn't generate an up-to-date database because /usr/share/kde4/apps/kwalletd was no longer there, I'd deleted it earlier today. I deleted the other three Snowhog recommended. The first reboot was weird, with a window that looked like the wallet one but had no content sitting for quite a while and me unable to get out with Ctrl-Sh-Del. So I turned off the machine and turned it back on, and now things seem to be working well with no evidence of kwallet.

Thanks, everyone! If this continues to work I'll soon mark this thread solved.

    The offender is:

    /usr/share/kde4/apps/kwalletd

If you remove this (as root), your problem should be resolved. I would also be inclined to remove these as well:

    /usr/lib/libkwalletbackend.so.4
    /usr/lib/libkwalletbackend.so.4.10.5
    /usr/lib/kde4/libkdeinit/libkdeinit4_kwalletd.so

Must be. The actual program is mlocate (edited my post to reflect that), but the CLI program name is locate. I can't find in my logs where I installed mlocate, so I guess it gets installed by default.
